SSS Methodology Changes: Rethinking How Family Assets Are Treated

Determining what a family is expected to be able to pay for school costs is a complex and ever-evolving exercise. Every so often, driven by school feedback, economic conditions, and family financial pressures, changing the formula to be more relevant to today’s pressures is necessary.

Guided by the work of its Financial Aid Advisory Task Force, the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) has made some significant changes to how the School and Student Services (SSS) methodology treats family assets and net worth in the calculation of ability to pay.
